The Marquand Zion High School, in conjunction with @MoStateParks, toured the Missouri Capitol on Wednesday, May 13th.
Over 30 high school and middle school students and teachers took a guided tour of the Capitol building, the Whispering Gallery, and sat in on a session of Congress.
During a meeting of the 103rd session of the House of Representatives, students were able to witness a heated debate over Missouri's Ranger bill, designed to add a layer of protection for schools against school violence. (Read more here https://www.missourinet.com/2026/04/08/missouri-lawmakers-move-forward-on-school-rangers-safety-bill/) Many of the students were reluctant to leave, wanting to hear more. The bill passed the House.
Students also visited the "Whispering Gallery". This is a part of the dome of the Capitol where you can whisper on one side and be heard on the opposite side of the room.
The Hall of Statues, the Missouri Museum, and the Missouri Mural were all favorites of the students as well. A quick stop by Rep. Tony Harbison (Madison Co District 144) and Senator Jamie Burger's Office (Senator Madison Co. District 27), and it was quickly time to leave.
A special thanks to the staff of Senator Burger, Rep. Harbison, Representative Becky Laubinger's office, Christine Bell (Our tour guide), and @MoStateParks for making our trip successful!
