Kolby Stafford competed at the Class 1 Sectional meet this past Saturday, May 17, held at Grandview HS. He had advanced to the Sectional meet in both shot put and discus, trying to earn a spot at the Class 1 State Championship meet to be held this weekend in Jefferson City.
Kolby started the day off by throwing shot put. While he fell short of the required top 4 finish needed to advance, he wrapped-up his season with a good performance. For a ninth grader to compete at the Sectional level is quite impressive in and of itself. Kolby was not even sure if he wanted to throw shot this season, and didn't throw his first few meets. We are sure this won't be the last time we see Kolby competing at this level or beyond for shot put.
Later that morning brought his discus competition. Kolby was one of only 2 ninth graders competing in this event and was able to deliver his longest throw of the season at 41.87 meters. This earned him a second-place Sectional medal as well as a spot among 15 other competitors at the Class 1 Championship this coming Saturday. Kolby will be the only 9th grader competing in this group at State. He must place in the top 8 to take his place on the podium.
For anyone who plans on attending the meet, all tickets are digital and must be purchased through the MSHSAA website. If you plan on parking anywhere near the stadium, you will have to pay cash for parking as well, $10-$15, depending on where you park. Kolby will throw at 12:00 noon this coming Saturday, May 24th. The event will be held at Adkins Stadium - Jefferson City HS in Jefferson City, MO.
Help cheer Kolby on as he continues his track and field season at the State level. No matter what happens Saturday, we are all so proud of you for making it this far, Kolby!
