The 2024 Track and Field season has begun for Marquand-Zion, and the Middle School boys are off to a great start!  Marquand Zion has only 3 middle school participants this year:  Kolby Stafford (8th grade) Discus and Shot Put; Tristian Hays (8th grade) 100, 200, and 400 meter Dash; and Ayden Hanks (8th Grade) Discus.

We took only the throwers to the Jackson, MO meet on March 27.  Kolby finished 4th out of 23 boys in shot put.  (He was one place away from a medal!)   Ayden finished 15th out of 25 boys in discus and got hit in the side with a discus, so his first Track & Field meet was quite memorable!  Kolby was able to take home a first-place medal in discus, throwing over 138 feet!

Our second meet of the season took us to DeSoto, MO on April 4.  While the weather was perfect for the Jackson meet, we weren't quite as fortunate with this one, but we survived!  Even with the colder temperatures and wind, the boys did quite well!  Kolby brought home a third-place medal (out of 19 boys) in shot put - throwing over 36 feet!  Kolby's shot put throws have improved by over 2 meters since last season!  Ayden finished 9th place out of 20 boys in discus - throwing over 73 feet.  (Great job, Ayden, for only your second meet!)  Kolby took home his second first-place medal in discus!  (Awesome job, Kolby!)  Tristian only ran the 100 and 400-meter dashes (not the 200).  He improved his 100-meter time from last year by a full second, finishing in 13.92 seconds.  He also improved his 400-meter time from last year by 4 seconds.  He finished in 9th place at a time of 1:06.92.  Dropping just a second or two in these fast races is a huge task, so Tristian had a great first meet on top of trying to run in freezing weather!  (Nice job, Tristian!)

The coaches are proud of all three boys and look forward to continuing the 2024 track and field season with them!  Our next meet is scheduled for Monday, April 15 at Farmington, MO. Check the Events page on the web site, or in the APP for more dates and times! Go Tigers!!
