Scam

At the beginning of each school year and each sports season, several SCAM websites show up on almost every Facebook page run by a school or an athletic department. They offer "LIVE WEB STREAMING OF TONIGHT'S GAMES" and ask you to click on a link to access the site.

THESE ARE SCAMS!

Most High schools rely on local media to cover their games via radio and newspapers and sometimes through video from the radio station website. These are FREE services provided by local media and supported by local advertisers. Sometimes MSHSAA (Missouri High School Athletic Association) provides coverage but that is set up through the school. Parents will, from time to time, go "live" on Facebook to broadcast a game, but these are the ONLY options available for viewing online. If Marquand Zion Schools were to offer a streaming link, such as we have in the past at graduation, we will notify you through the website, Facebook, and the Marquand Zion app.

WHAT IF I CLICK ON THE LINK?

These sites ask you to join the "Live webstream" and many look legitimate. However, once you click the link they ask for your email address, and once you enter it, they will transfer you to a page to ask for a credit card number. They promise it "ONLY COSTS $1" or some other small fee and ask for you to enter their site to watch. The trouble is, once you enter that information they have access to your bank and may take a larger amount from your account. in 2018 several people, including teachers were scammed of $30-$50 with no recourse available.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

If you see any of these sites DO NOT CLICK ON THEM! Instead, report them to Facebook as a scam. Notify the school at MZTiger@mz.k12.mo.us and we will delete the post as soon as possible.

Most schools aren't aware of these sites attaching themselves to Facebook pages and therefore have no means of helping should you be compromised.
